Community Using Calendar

Ideas were passed around at my last team meeting about creating a calendar through the year that was meaningful to the kids and parents. We wanted something that parents could look at when they drop off and pick up their children. We all decided that in the hallway outside our doors we would have a place for each month of the school year. We will choose 2 pictures that represent what we learned about or was special that month and we would have the children create a piece of artwork to display under the pictures. We are hoping that this will be a way for us to build community in our families and classrooms throughout the year.

Clean Up Time Thoughts

I'm wondering what everyone does at cleanup time. How do you get your class to stop play and clean up at the end of center time? Her are some thoughts that I have tried and seen in other classes and am trying now. 1.  Use a song to signal clean up time is here. It gives the auditory signal for your auditory children that there is a change coming in our day. 2.  Turn on overhead lights to give a visual brightness of the time to clean up. ( we keep our lights low for normal class time. I saw one of my team mates do this and loved it. She also does number 3 that I plan to try ) 3. Use a magic wand to tap children on the head or shoulder that gives them permission to clean up and assign a specific job to them ( Please pick up the paper off the floor) 4.  Have pictures on shelves if you want things put back in a specific place.  5. Veggie and Fruit Art

These are artwork made with Apples and Celery. Cut apples in half, dip them in paint and stamp with them. Use rubber bands to hold stalks of celery together and dip ends in paint and stamp with them. Fun and easy! The display is made from bamboo sticks tied together and then hung up. I used small clothespins to hang the artwork from each square.
